The Program

Medibank Private 1Seven - a national health and wellbeing program for Australian children

Medibank Private, the Australian Football League and Netball Australia are again combining to run the
successful Medibank Private 1Seven program in schools in 2008. The program, which was launched in 2006, promotes the benefits of a healthy diet and participation in physical activity, with the aim of improving the health and well being of Australian children.

Our basic message is: Move More. Eat Well.

The Medibank Private 1Seven program targets children 5 to 12 year-olds, and derives its name from the call for children to participate in at least one hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity, and eat up to seven serves of fruit and vegetables every day.

Schools are vital in communicating this important health message. They are the perfect setting to educate and inform children on health and wellbeing issues.

The Medibank Private 1Seven program can be delivered in schools, classrooms, homes and communities using web-based material, curriculum resources, games, giveaways and school visits from ambassador athletes from the two participating sporting organisations.

Getting children to move more and eat well is one of the biggest health challenges in Australia and children’s weight and physical activity has been the subject of much recent discussion and media attention.

Research indicates that the number of children who are overweight or obese has jumped dramatically in the past few decades, with almost one in four children at risk.

The short and long-term consequences of physical inactivity and poor diet in children can lead to severe
health problems, including the early development of Type 2 diabetes, low self esteem and heightened risk of preventable diseases in adulthood.

The time to act is now!

We look forward to your involvement in the Medibank Private 1Seven program.
